"Improving how we move is a learning process. Remember, our brains tell our bodies
how to move. If we’re to change how we move, we have to provide our brains with new information.” Anat Baniel

The Anat Baniel Method℠ (ABM) of
NeuroMovement® is a science-based approach to helping children and adults overcome limitations in movement, learning, thinking, self-regulation, and connection with others. The method is useful for conditions caused by injury, disease or genetic disorders. Brain Plasticity. ABM accesses the remarkable capacity of the human brain to form new connections and patterns at any age, known as “brain plasticity.” ABM uses the Nine Essentials, including slow and gentle movement with focused attention, to provide the conditions that neuroscience research has shown are necessary for the brain to learn new patterns. The process wakes up the brain, releases chronic tensions, and facilitates the development of new neural pathways, so that people can perform more effectively. Learn more about the Nine Essentials of ABM that facilitate brain change. |
Mind-Body Integration. The idea that the body and the mind are one has been advocated for quite some time. Yet most people still think of “the body,” or “physical movement” as separate, different, and independent, from “mental” activity such as thinking, emotions, beliefs, feelings and social behaviors. Many people find it hard to comprehend how “physical movement” can help form and enhance thinking and vice versa, and many therapies or fitness programs approach “the physical” as a separate entity from “the mental”. In ABM, we approach the person as an integrated information system, and we use movement to connect with the brain, which is responsible for organizing all human function--physical, mental, and emotional.
The language of the brain. Neuroscience research confirms that movement is the language of the brain. Movement provides the brain with the information it requires to form and organize itself, and in turn, through its experiences, to learn to organize the movements of the body, of thinking, of feeling, of emotion, and of all action. Because the human brain is plastic, it continues to change itself as a result of its experiences throughout life. ABM taps into this capability to facilitate change in children and adults with challenges, and many clients achieve outcomes well beyond what they have been told was possible.

Who can benefit from ABM?
The Anat Baniel Method℠ has a 30-year history of excellent outcomes in both children and adults. With ABM we understand that the underlying process leading to growth and improvement of brain functioning, and with it the improvement in skills and well-being, is the continued process of differentiation, refinement and increased complexity in the brain. With this method we don’t just try to change behavior, but we help upgrade the functioning of the brain itself to become a more skilled brain. With a better, stronger brain positive changes occur in all aspects that otherwise may not be possible, both for adults and for children, including:
